With the dawn of a new year, Louis Vuitton has teamed us with Swiss contemporary artist Urs Fisher for a capsule collection that reimagines the familiar—the French house’s classic Monogram.
“I thought about how the Monogram has become omnipresent in people’s lives, and how its meaning can vary depending on a person’s background, location, lifestyle and aspirations,” Fisher said. “Given the Louis Vuitton Monogram’s ubiquitous status, I chose to hand-draw it in a really spontaneous way, almost like sketching it from memory.”
The collection entitled “Louis Vuitton x Urs Fisher” showcases Fisher’s exuberant creative vision across a broad range of classic LV products: leather goods, ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories. Fisher used the signature Vuitton Monogram as a jumping off point for the collection, creating playful renditions of the Monogram that are almost dream-like, like following Alice down the rabbit hole.
Amongst the ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes in the collection, there are seven special-edition bags—a Keepall, Cabas, Onthego, two Neverfulls, Speedys, Pochettes Accessoires, and beauty case. The memory sketch pattern comes to life with a tuffetage treatment that uses a velvet-like material to add texture, almost like a relief painting.
“The rewarding part of this collaboration has been the chance to work closely with all these highly skilled and knowledgeable specialists, all experts in their respective fields,” Fisher said. “What connects everyone is the desire to experiment, to push things towards unexpected places, because that’s what is most exciting.”
