Draymond Green is one of the most notorious trash talkers in the NBA. The Warriors’ stalwart contributes significantly to the game by getting under the skin of his opponents. Opposition fans never appreciate what Green does, but his smack-talking has allowed the Warriors to get significant wins. And now, Green is back at it, after the Warriors beat the Cavaliers.
Draymond Green having words with Osman
Draymond Green was having words for and mocking Cavaliers’ Cedi Osman after he attempted a three-pointer, which he air-balled. Green was seen after shot throwing words at Osman, making fun of him for missing the rim entirely with his three-point shot. Given the history between the Warriors and the Cavs, this comes as no surprise.
For much of the last decade, the Warriors‘ biggest rivals were the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James led the Cavaliers to four consecutive finals against Golden State. While the Warriors got the upper hand on most occasions, the 2016 Finals is still a sore subject for the team, as the Warriors surrendered a 3-1 lead to the Cavs as the latter won the NBA championship.
That series is still looked upon fondly by fans. Many consider the ejection and suspension of Draymond Green the turning point of the series. Green was ejected and suspended for game five of the NBA finals after an altercation with LeBron James. His absence in game five allowed the Cavs to come back in the series and eventually go on to win the championship.
Draymond is still the enforcer
For the Warriors, Green is their defensive enforcer and the emotional leader of the team. He is most vocal during the game, talking and shouting to his teammates so that they increase their focus. This season, Green has served as the primary mentor for Warriors’ rookie James Wiseman, often talking to him and telling him what to do, and reprimanding him when he goes wrong.
Draymond’s presence for the Warriors is understated. Prior to his return this season, the Warriors had been struggling, especially on the defensive end of the court. While his return hasn’t sent the Warriors on a winning streak, it has allowed them to get some significant wins against the Lakers, Clippers, and the Trail Blazers. Green is crucial if the Dubs aim to reach the playoffs this year.
