The UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang aka ‘Magnum’ successfully retained her title for the first time with her spectacular victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248. The Chinese fighter is now on her way to defend her title for the second time and will battle against the former champion, Rose Namajunas, at UFC 261.
In Zhang’s first title defense against the Pole, she went all in and proved to the world that she deserves to be a champ. Now, she wants to do the same thing in her second title defense. Since Namajunas is a great fighter in the women’s strawweight division, ‘Magnum’ is leaving no stone unturned for her bout.
Recently, Zhang had an interview with CGTN Sports Scene where she revealed her gruelling training routine for her upcoming fight.
Zhang said, “I get up at six in the morning, before having my breakfast at seven. Then I go outside for fitness training at eight. Around nine o’clock, I arrive at the training site, where I start practicing for the next two hours. I train for three and a half hours before noon.”
Zhang also said that she trains for Ju-Jitsu in the afternoon, from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. To round things up, she does some wrestling at around 5 pm. The UFC strawweight champion ends her training routine on an intense note by doing pilates workouts in the evening to stretch her muscles deep inside her body.
Weili Zhang talks about her coaching staff
UFC fighters from around the world and their coaching staff sometimes face visa issues. Sometimes, the staff is not available in their fighter’s corner because of these issues due to which they cannot guide and prepare their fighter throughout the fight week.
When Zhang was asked about the same, she said, “My coaches are already here, and came in with any visa problems figured out.”
Zhang’s coaching staff arrived with no visa issues and are now preparing ‘Magnum’ for her next title defense against Namajunas. ‘Thug’ Rose has already defeated Jedrzejczyk twice and proved that she is among the toughest in the strawweight division.
Speaking about her preparations for her next fight, ‘Magnum’ said, “Basically in our preparations, we try to find out how to overcome my opponent’s advantages and capitalize on her shortcomings.”
She will look to do more of the same against ‘Thug’ Rose, who has earned the moniker of ‘Boogeywoman’ due to her insane durability within the octagon.
