UFC Vegas 16 takes place this weekend. Jack Hermansson who takes on Marvin Vettori will headline the card in a middleweight clash. The card is an extremely stacked card all the way down to the prelim fights. However, the card has an intriguing co-main event as well.
The light heavyweight fight pits the #15 ranked fighter ‘OSP‘ against the unranked Hill. The latter will want to break into the rankings, and a win over the fighter at the tail end of the rankings could be his ticket to do just that.
Ahead of the fight we analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each fighter and highlight the possible route to victory for each fighter.
Ovince St. Preux vs Jamahal Hill set to be a fantastic co-main event
‘OSP’ has been in the UFC for a very long time. He made his debut in April 2013 against Gian Villante. He won the fight via technical decision and then won in his next 3 fights. Ovince’s career since then has been topsy-turvy, with some impressive wins sandwiched in between a few losses. Most recently, he won his last fight in September this year with a KO win over Alonzo Menifield. He is currently 2-1 in his last three fights.
‘Sweet Dreams’ made his UFC debut in July 2019 with an impressive TKO oven over Alexander Poppeck. He then won his second fight via unanimous decision in January this year over Darko Stosic. His most recent fight in May was a no-contest against Klidson Abreu.
Ovince has good knockout power in his hands and has secured 48% of his wins via T/KO. However, he does not lag far behind in submission and has secured 32% of his wins in this fashion.
Going into the fight, he will have a one-inch reach advantage over his adversary. In the UFC, he has landed an impressive 2.49 significant strikes per minute. However, he has absorbed a concerning 3.97 significant strikes per minute in return.
Hill on the other hand is vastly inexperienced, having had only seven fights as a professional thus far. He has secured 57% of those wins via decision. Going into the fight, he will have a one-inch advantage in height. In the UFC, he has landed a shocking 6.82 significant strikes per minute. However, he has absorbed a concerning 4.39 significant strikes per minute.
‘OSP’ has averaged 1.14 takedowns and 0.49 submissions per 15 minutes. It is something he can bank on to secure a win over an inexperienced opponent. However, it will not be easy given that Hill has a 53% takedown defense rate.
Prediction: Ovince St. Preux via submission.
