Later this month, Jimmie Johnson will kick off his IndyCar career with Chip Ganassi Racing. In the buildup to the first race of the season, he sat down with teammate Tony Kanaan for a chat. During their talk, the two of them recalled a funny story involving the seven-time NASCAR Cup champion.
Kanaan said, “I think it was the first bike ride we did at Daytona. Dario [Franchitti] was there, and in the middle of the ride, I have to actually blame Jimmie for that.
“We’re doing a bike ride ‘Drive for Safety’ and I’m starving in the middle of the ride. Jimmie pulled out of his pocket, an Uncrustable snack, which I never knew. It was peanut butter and jelly, that he actually freezes in the freezer, puts it in his pocket, and during the ride, it unfreezes.”
Tony Kanaan revealed that he also ate it, and then, every time he opened one of those snacks, it reminded him of Jimmie Johnson.
What else did Tony Kanaan say about Jimmie Johnson?
The Brazilian driver also confessed that his children have grown fond of the snack because of Johnson. “Now, my kids love it. It’s his fault,” Kanaan said.
Safe to say, all throughout the conversation, there was plenty of good-natured ribbing. So, it is clear that Jimmie Johnson is excited to tackle this new venture with his new team.
Of course, he will have plenty of expectations laid out in front of him. However, the NASCAR legend will be pleased to know that his teammates will be keen to back him up in any way possible. Considering that reigning champion Scott Dixon is one of Johnson’s teammates, there is no better person to shadow in 2021.
