TikTok star and executive chef Rochelle Hager was killed suddenly on Monday in a very unusual car accident.
According to the Associated Press, the social media star who went by the username @roeurboat3 died in what local police called a “tragic and unique” road accident in Farmington, Maine while speaking to her fiancée, Brittanie Lynn Ritchie, on the phone. While they were talking, a 50 mile-per-hour gust of wind knocked a branch from a nearby pine tree onto the roof of her 2015 Nissan Rogue, killing her instantly. Ritchie told Maine’s Morning Sentinel, “It happened really quick. She has a phone mounted in her vent. I just heard a crash and then there was nothing. She didn’t see the tree coming. It was instant.” Hager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Together, Hager and her fiancée have over 400,000 TikTok followers, posting videos that have collectively attracted over 5 million likes. “We had a following on TikTok, and she was all about positivity and making people laugh,” Ritchie said. “She was that kind of person. She was my son’s best friend.” She and Hager met in June last year through a mutual friend and quickly fell in love. Ritchie told the outlet, “We were getting married Oct. 16 — we had already gotten the venue and photographer and everything.” The couple had only just moved to Maine in August and before her death, Ritchie revealed they had discussed starting a family of their own. “We had picked out a name the night before for a girl,” she said.
Hager, who friends referred to as “Roe,” was proudly ten years sober and the executive chef at The Woodlands in Waterville. The Woodlands’ director of operation, Benjamin Smith, said, “She did make such a huge impact on the lives of the residents she served,” with her infectious personality and ability to light up every room. He added, “When you find someone like that, an employee that has that type of personality or aura, it makes a huge difference in the lives of the seniors we serve.”
A memorial for Hager is being planned in Pittsburgh, where her parents live, and Florida, where she has more friends and relatives.
