Hear ye! Hear ye! The British Royal Family welcomes a newborn!
Early Saturday Princess Eugenie took to Instagram to introduce the world to her son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, who was born on February 9. Proud papa Jack Brooksbank was in the picture, too.
“Thank you for so many wonderful messages,” the Princess wrote. “Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”
She then gave photo credit to an unnamed midwife, and thanked “the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.”
The 30-year-old Princess is tenth in line to the throne, and the younger daughter to Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York. (This makes her first cousin to Princes William and Harry.)
Baby August is her first child, and the first grandchild of Andrew and Sarah’s. This marks Queen Elizabeth‘s ninth great-grandchild. Reportedly, the new parents are not eager for the child to receive a title. “Titles really don’t matter to Jack and Eugenie, they just want a happy healthy child,” a family friend has said.
The choice of the middle name Philip is especially poignant considering Prince Phillip, Eugenie’s grandfather, is currently undergoing an extended stay at the hospital.
Determining the current whereabouts of the new parents opens a doorway to some royal confusion. As recently as last September they were reportedly happy to make a life at Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace. Then they spent six weeks at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s former abode, Frogmore Cottage at Windsor. In January they reportedly had left Frogmore for Royal Lodge at Windsor, Eugenie’s childhood home. But now there it appears that the new family of three are back at Frogmore. So much schlepping!
Wherever they are, they seem happy.
New grandmother Sarah Ferguson took to social media to salute the child’s naming.
