Miley Cyrus encouraged two of her fans to tie the knot this week, even though the institution of marriage hasn’t worked out so well for her in the past.
The singer left a comment on a TikTok video on Thursday showing a couple dancing around their living room to the song “Plastic Hearts” off Cyrus’s new album before sharing a hug and a kiss. Over the clip, the pair wrote “if miley cyrus comments we will get married.” The pop star took the pair up on the challenge, commenting, “Hope it goes better for you two than it did for me. Congrats,” adding an engagement ring, skull and crossbones, and black heart emoji. While the TikTok couple hasn’t confirmed they’ll actually go through with the ceremony just yet, they did share another video having a minor freak out over Cyrus’s reply with the caption, “@mileycyrus HE LOVES YOU SO MUCH.”
This week, Cyrus also spoke openly about what happened in her own 2018 marriage to Liam Hemsworth and subsequent divorce nine months later. She told Howard Stern that while she still loves the actor “very, very, very much,” there was just “too much conflict.” She explained, “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting, I don’t know if we ever really thought we were actually going to get married.” She added that the decision was partly made in response to her Malibu mansion burning down in a wildfire. “Me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him,” she said.
Cyrus has since moved on from the relationship, dating Kaitlynn Carter and Cody Simpson, and it seems Hemsworth has as well. A source told ET this week that the actor “isn’t upset by the recent interview…Liam was very hurt when they initially broke up, but he has moved on now and is happy with Gabriella [Brooks],” the model he’s reportedly been dating for the last year. “He’s very traditional and Gabriella shares the same values as him and gets along with his family. Their relationship is easygoing and they have similar upbringings and backgrounds.”
