The Duchess of Sussex is currently very pregnant with her and Prince Harry‘s second child—a baby girl due this summer—and so was advised by her doctors not to make the long journey back to the U.K for the funeral. However, sources confirmed to Vanity Fair that Meghan did watch the service on TV from her home in Montecito and handwrote a heartfelt letter from herself and Harry that was placed alongside their wreath on the lawns outside St George’s Chapel. On top of that, a source who spoke to People explained that “Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather’s funeral,” adding, “Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week.” In February, Harry revealed to James Corden that he and Meghan had been regularly video chatting with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip throughout the pandemic, saying, “Both my grandparents do Zoom. They’ve seen Archie running around.”
The source went on to explain that “Meghan and Harry have been in touch every day,” since he left. They continued, “She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn’t want to leave Meghan and Archie alone. Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn’t wanted him to worry.” But those reassuring conversations haven’t stopped Harry from wanting to rush back to his wife’s side, flying back to Los Angeles on Tuesday, one day before Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday. “Harry felt terrible leaving Meghan behind, it has been a very hard week and he wants to get back to her as soon as possible,” an insider told Vanity Fair. But the couple still won’t get to reunite just yet as once he’s back in the United States the royal will have to quarantine for another week and produce a negative COVID test before he can finally see his wife.
