In the coming weekend, Junior Dos Santos will collide with Ciryl Gane in the main card of UFC 256. However, he just may be fighting for his UFC career. Of late, the UFC has chopped fighters who have maintained a long unimpressive streak; there will be significant fighter cuts till 2021. Considering this juncture, Dos Santos will desperately have to secure a win this Saturday to continue his extensive run with the promotion.
Ahead of his fight against Gane, Dos Santos talked to Aaron Bronsteter about securing a much-needed win and the recent fighter cuts made by the UFC. Bronsteter questioned him on his concerns over a cut from the roster, to which ‘Cigano’ reverted:

“You know they can release you from your contract is the moment they want. You know we are employees, and we just have to do our best to keep working. And they can release you anytime they want, you know, so now they are claiming to do this in a big way. And also releasing more people.”
‘Cigano’ seemed unconcerned about his potential layoff from the promotion. He is currently focused on getting his hand raised on Saturday night. This is all he can do to convince the UFC to retain him. The former champion concluded, “But, you know, this is a business, they’re doing their business if that’s what they think is gonna be good for them. Go ahead and do it.”

However, the past couple of years have been less favorable for the former champion. He is riding a three-fight skid and will look to avoid four losses in a row against Gane.
In his prodigious UFC career, Junior Dos Santos has beaten the likes of some big names in the roster like Stipe Miocic, Frank Mir, Mark Hunt, Cain Velasquez, and more. For Dos Santos, the only viable option to remain uncut is to end his 2020 with a morale-boosting win.
