John Cena is one of WWE’s most philanthropic Superstars. From being a beacon of light to children with disabilities to granting over 650 wishes as a part of the Make-A-Wish foundation – the sixteen-time World Champion has used his platform to help others in need, but this situation really takes the top spot.
John Cena inspires a young boy to save his sister’s life
Jaxson Dempsey of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, saved his sister’s life by saving her from choking. The eight-year-old spoke to Amanda Eustice from WNEP (ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Scranton, Pennsylvania), about the heroic act.
“We were driving to my haircut, and I noticed she was starting to choke from a chicken nugget from McDonald’s. I told my dad to pull over. Then I was starting to pat her back, and it got out.”
According to Jaxson, he saved his sister by recalling a CPR lesson John Cena gave on an episode of Substitutes.
“It’s called The Substitutes on Nickelodeon, and in the very first episode, John Cena was on it, and in the last part, he showed how to save someone when they’re choking,” said Jaxson.
Jaxson’s father Matt Dempsey also praised his son’s quick reaction. “He amazes us every day, you know—some of the things he says and does, and his actions. We’re simply blessed to have the child that he is.” Matt added, “Thank God Jaxson was there because, without him, I don’t know if Lelia would be here.”
Kudos to John Cena as well, for without his appearance on Substitutes, a great tragedy would’ve fallen upon the Dempsey family. God alone knows how many more undocumented instances have occurred where a celebrity like Cena must’ve inspired a child to save a life.
The Champ’s acts of philanthropy
While John Cena isn’t punching people in the face, he’s trying to make the world a better place. The actor/wrestler’s philanthropic work is absolutely incredible, and some might say it’s even more impactful than his WWE career.
In 2018, Cena won the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award for his philanthropic work. The sixteen-time World Champion has used his platform to promote some important causes. These include anti-bullying campaigns, raising cancer awareness campaigns, and even entertaining the troops fighting in Afghanistan.
Cena’s most touching philanthropic work is his Make-A-Wish campaign, which has granted over 650 wishes. This proved even a full-time career shouldn’t stop a person from doing good deeds.
