Lately, a lot has been brewing up in the welterweight division as to who will fight whom next. However, one contender who has been left out in the cold is the former interim champion, Colby Covington. There is one name big name who has been out in the cold, and that is the former BMF title challenger, Nate Diaz.
The Stockton native recently hinted at his return and has aimed at several contenders. In a recent podcast interview with Submission Radio, the host asked Covington whether he would be interested in fighting Nate Diaz.
‘Chaos’ said, “He won’t fight me you know that ‘Stockton Soyboy’ knows he gets slapped up by MAGA bombs all day. He has no chance, and he knows that, so he doesn’t even spit my name out of his mouth because he knows what comes with that and it’s a really bad losing paycheck and worse than he’s ever had in his career.”
Nate Diaz, who hasn’t fought since November 2019, wanted to get back in the octagon. However, his ranking may be detrimental to the UFC matchmakers booking him against Covington. Nevertheless, he has an excellent name-value and could be a viable opponent.
Colby Covington and his possible welterweight opponents
After Covington beat Tyron Woodley by TKO, Jorge Masvidal has been the man in his sight. The 32-year-old even called out Kamaru Usman repeatedly following his TKO defeat to the champion at UFC 245.
Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns are also potential fighters who could face Colby Covington in his next fight. ‘Durinho’ suffered a defeat to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare‘ in his title fight; Leon Edwards is in search of an opponent after his bouts against Khamzat Chimaev were scrapped.
These make sense from a rankings perspective. Given the number of names who want to fight ‘Chaos‘, it will interest everyone to see who the UFC books him against.
Who might be Colby Covington’s next opponent?
