Elizabeth Olsen Says She’s Wanted to Dress Exactly Like Her Sisters Her Entire Life
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen aren’t just fashion icons to the masses, even the twin fashion designers’ own family members are obsessed with their style.
Elizabeth Olsen confessed during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that she’s spent her whole life trying to imitate her sisters’ vintage boho aesthetic. During the program, the show’s co-host Julia Cunningham asks if Elizabeth ever got “swept up” in the “mass phenomenon” that is her siblings’ influence on street style. “Everything my sisters have ever worn in my entire life I have wanted to wear still as an adult today,” the actress quickly replied. “I want their coats. I want their shoes. I want their dresses. And that is something that I never grew out of.”
She went on to explain that in an attempt to replicate their designer looks, “during that time, I myself was just going through every secondhand store and wearing all of, all of the things, except mine became more like Annie Hall-y.” And also unlike her sisters, she added, “It was all just, like, a lot of clothes that I didn’t even wash them after I got them. I just wore them…and now I’m just like mortified of, you know, where were those clothes? Most of them are like thrown into trash bags and thrown into bins and I would just not wash them.”
But while the Avengers star grew up wanting to imitate her sisters’ outfits, now she can outright buy them from the Olsens’ own high-end luxury brand, The Row. Elizabeth told Elle in 2018 that Mary-Kate and Ashley “have such a strong point of view. And they make such beautiful tailored clothes and timeless pieces, and I just feel lucky that I get to borrow it all the time.” She also imparted their best fashion advice to her: “Be comfortable, wear soft clothes.” But while her older siblings are obviously her first and biggest fashion inspirations, the actress confessed to InStyle in 2017 that there is one other movie star whose closet she wants to raid: “I genuinely look forward to seeing what Diane Kruger wears. If I could switch wardrobes with anyone, it would be her.”
