Claressa Shields Turns Heel – Conor McGregor’s Coach Disapproves
Claressa Shields is on her way to becoming the next big star in the world of MMA. The 25-year-old is one of the most accomplished athletes of her age. She has won two Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016. ‘T-Rex’ is an undefeated pro boxer and became one of eight boxers to hold all four major world titles in boxing (WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO) simultaneously. She did so for the middleweight division.
Shields will be moving to the PFL to make her MMA debut. The trajectory is similar to what fellow Olympic Gold Medalist Kayla Harrison did. However, Shields is coming into the sport with considerably more hype.
Promotion is how you survive in combat sports, and Shields seems to know what she needs to do. She openly antagonized MMA fans in her interview with TheMacLife.

Conor McGregor‘s coach, John Kavanagh, didn’t seem impressed by it. Of course when Shields says something a little charged it is ‘making fans dislike her’. But when Conor throws a dolly through a bus, injuring half a fight-card, it is just promotion.
Claressa Shields and her venture into MMA
Hopefully, she really doesn’t care about what Kavanagh had to say. If he had advice to dish out, maybe he should have given it to a fighter in his stable.
At the end of the day, it is all about promotion. If one were to ask Kavanagh about those Conor actions, he would say the same thing. Hence, fans would opine that Kavanagh should not pass his opinion on the same.
The details on Shields’s debut are still unclear. One thing is for sure, if fans are there for the debut, Shields wants to be booed. We saw Ronda Rousey attack WWE fans in a similar way, which got her a lot of heat. Shields just seems to be continuing that strategy.
