Cardi B Proves She Can Donate to Charity and Also Buy a $88,000 Purse

Dec 07, 2020

Cardi B‘s fans are trying to encourage her to use her money to effect positive change in the world instead of splashing out on another lavish party or handbag, but the rapper doesn’t understand why she can’t have it all.

The Grammy winner tweeted out a very important question to her 15.4 million fans on Sunday night, inquiring, “Should I spend 88K for this damn purse? Omggg it’s tempting,” with a string of weary face emojis. Her followers didn’t take too kindly to that very pricey query, however, calling Cardi out for such a gross display of wealth in the midst of a pandemic when so many are unemployed and struggling just to make ends meet, especially over the holidays.

In response to the backlash from Twitter users calling her uncharitable, Cardi agreed to not only match fans’ donations, but also thoughtfully itemized all of the large cash gifts she’s already given out this year for her detractors’ easy reference. “Any charity or foundation drop your receipts under the comment I will match what you donated and match your donation to that same charity or foundation,” Cardi wrote. “Lets match energy.” She then proceeded to post screenshots of the $1 million she gave to coronavirus relief in April, the $1 million she gave to fans through Cash app in September, the 20,000 meal supplements she donated to New York-area medical staff, the special project she’s working on in another country launching next year, on top of the, “7 uncles and 3 aunts on my daddy side, 9 aunts and 3 uncles on my momma side, [and] a whole bunch of cousins I had to help cause of the pandemic.”

But while the rapper was willing to humor her followers with some philanthropic acts for a little while, she eventually got frustrated. Replying to one commenter, she wrote, “Mannn stfu I’m not gaslighting people that going thru poverty I’m addressing the people that always screaming to celebs that they ‘constantly drag’ to donate but never donate themselves. I donate all the time no1 say nun now when we talk about spending money we work here ya come,” later adding, “Ok guys I apologize. There you happy?! I don’t see ya askin trump for a apology when he out here missing COVID meetings to play golf but OK.”

She ended by tweeting that she’d only be posting bible verses to her account from now on to stay out of the drama. But not before letting everyone know that after that whole ordeal, she’s definitely going to buy the $88,000 bag, tweeting, “Sooooooo……do ya want me to show ya the purse?”
